Houston Avicultural Association
About the Houston Avicultural Association
The Houston Avicultural Association was founded in 2001 in Houston, TX. We are a non-profit club affiliated with the American Federation of Aviculture. Our purpose is to promote the advancement of Aviculture through educational programs that support improved husbandry practices, conservation, research and legislative awareness.
We work with and support other local bird clubs and organizations dedicated to the care and keeping of our avian companions. Our fundraising efforts have allowed us to be able to contribute to the Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center at Texas A & M University. The veterinarians at the Schubot Center have made enormous strides in discovering the cause of PDD, a deadly disease in parrots and other avian species.
We also participate in the annual Parrot Festival put on by NPRPF (National Parrot Rescue and Preservation Foundation) every January. It is a three day educational conference featuring nationally and internationally reknown speakers presenting talks on a variety of topics important to our understanding of our birds. Vendors from all over the US display their wares - it's one-stop shopping at its finest! They have daily raffles, a large 3 day raffle, a silent auction, a live auction and a banquet on the last night. It is quite an experience that shouldn't be missed.
If you are interested in helping HAA in our fundraising efforts, please go to our store at Cafe Press and pick up on some good quality merchandise with the HAA logo emblazoned on it.

We sometimes get calls regarding orphaned, injured or abandoned wild birds. Our advice is to contact the Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition for information. It is against state and federal laws to keep most wild birds without a permit. TWRC is located at 10801 Hammerly Blvd., Ste 200, Houston, Texas 77043. Phone 713-468-8972.
